Are you Healthy or Instagram Healthy?

Being healthy is one thing, being Instagram healthy is another.

Instagram depicts models and fitness “gurus” punishing themselves everyday with kale smoothies and 5am wake-ups and intense cross fit classes…. I mean is that what it takes nowadays to be healthy? I feel guilty eating a slice of bread for Christ sakes.

Surely being healthy can’t be that life consuming…

Here are a few of the fitness myths Instagram has told us we need to be healthy… but in reality actually don’t need.

Green smoothies

Mate, these ARE good for you. There’s no doubt about it. They’re all leafy and green and they taste like grass… but you know eating them in… say… an omelet is just as good for you and it will, you know, actually taste like food. Which is always a plus.

#mealprep

Instagram may have you believe that ‘failing to prepare is preparing to fail’, but you don’t need to be super prepared all the time. If you don’t have any self-control, then you’ll give into temptation regardless of the meal you’ve prepared.

And besides what if I don’t feel like eating sweet potato all the time. What if I want some pasta once in a while, is that so wrong?

Superfoods/

Ergggg. Every food can be a superfood. Just add the word super to the front of it. It’s 100% that easy.

In all seriousness, you need balance so eating a variety of different food is better for you than just eating “superfoods”.

Detoxes

Dude, isn’t that the sole purpose of our liver? To detox?

You don’t need to cleanse or detox all the time. That is a falsehood.

Now I’m not saying I haven’t done it before, because I’ve been known to juice cleanse now and then, but all the time is certainly not good for you. Just eat a balanced diet. And most of all food is meant to be fun. So enjoy it!

Punishing exercise

Reality is, if you don’t like exercise you’re less inclined to do it. So find something you like to do, instead of punishing yourself with grueling exercise regimes. Once you find something you enjoy doing you’re more likely to stick to it.

Dudes, just eat a balanced diet with lots of veg, find an exercise you enjoy doing and stick to it and you’ll be sweet.

And remember no one likes an Instagram fitness wannabe.
